Xbox 360 Wiimote Rip-off News

We all know how good Nintendo Wii is doing. Hell they are still having a tough time keeping the damn machine in stock at most stores. They have been able to tap into a much bigger market than other companies have like Sony and Microsoft. Yeah the Wii has simplistic controls and Nintendo uses their controls to take full advantage of the games they make, even though third party game makers are failing horribly at making good Wii games. Nintendo has still been able to bring in a bigger crowd, especially a crowd of non hardcore gamers and people who just don't play games at all. So Microsoft is now working on a little wiimote of their own, hoping to tap into that more casual, accessible market that Nintendo has been able to reach.

What was previously thought to be a rumor, seems to be more of a reality now. 8Bit Joystick has an article as they talk to a close friend who works with Microsoft. So the current codename of this wiimote seems to be "Newton" we'll have to see what happens and if this will change anything for 360 but chances are it will most likely be another failure like the live cam just due to the fact that developers wont waste time making games for the "Newton" controls.

Ringo Starr Decapitated

Ringo Starr finally lost his head, well okay heres the story. Seems like some people were offended by something Ringo had said on the BBC program 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross' in January. He was asked since now he lives in Los Angeles what he missed most about living in Liverpool and he replied "Nothing"

So this pissed off alot of the people living in Liverpool and some people went as far as to vandalize some kind of statue they have there of the complete Beatles band in onstage performance stance. The victim was Ringo Starr's statue which was beheaded.

GFW Magazine Ink Dries Up, Moves Online.

As I go on the 1up.com site this afternoon, a little image with the windows logo catches my eye as I read the headline it reads "GFW Magazine Moves Online: The end of an era, but the start of a new one." First thing that came to mind was WTF are those guys up to again.

Well after reading through the blog of Editor-in-Chief Jeff Green's Page and all it turns out the mag is no more. After 27 Years we wont be seeing a CGW/GFW Issue which is sad, but the good news is that the editors will from now be doing all their PC news Directly on the 1up site.

I may not have been a CGW/GFW reader for 27 years - as that would require me to have been reading even before I was born - but I know these guys are among the best I have read so I look forward on seeing how they improve the PC section of 1up. Cheers guys. The mag will sorely be missed.

Indie Corner: Fez and Ookibloks Games

Indie Corner will be all about Independent Movies, Music or Video Games. So to start it off, here are two indie titles I can't wait to get on my PC. Let's start off with -

FEZ
A simple platformer where you got a little dude wearing a fez jumping from ledge to ledge. He navigates through various environments collecting stuff. A 2D platformer at heart yes but very modern in the sense that everything in the world is actually 3D. Being able to switch from 2D to 3D to rearrange the world so that impossible jump all of a sudden is made super easy is quite an interesting game play element. Sort of reminds me of the Super Paper Mario game play where you can switch from a 2D to 3D perspective to get to unattainable places. Although not entirely done the same way, Fez seems like the more engaging game.

Ookibloks
A monkey hitting blocks while making music, what else could you ask for? Using a similar algorithm than what was used for Audiosurf, these guys are making a crazy monkey jump from block to block creating the melody of a track being played in the background. The more blocks you hit the higher your combo score is. Turn all the block from blue to red and you beat the level, while avoiding the enemies. Not too much info is available on this one but the video was enough to make me want this game bad.
